Here’s Your First Look at Chevrolet’s Most Advanced Silverado HD Ever
The first photos of the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD are here, and GM says it’s “the most capable and advanced” Heavy Duty model ever.
The American-made pickup gets an updated exterior design with beefy finishes exemplified by a monstrous mesh grill that’s split by the Chevrolet badge and a hood scoop.
Two new power plants will be offered—a yet-to-be specified gasoline engine combined with a six-speed transmission and a new version of Chevy’s Duramax turbo-diesel V8 capable of delivering 910 pound-feet of torque to an Allison 10-speed transmission.
Performance specs also haven’t been announced, but the automaker promises significant increases in towing and payload capacities over previous HDs.
“We built a heavy-duty truck tailor-made for them that has more differentiation than ever before from light-duty models,” Jaclyn McQuaid, the truck’s chief engineer, said in a press release.
“[It] offers advanced towing technologies to improve towing confidence and includes new features such as the integrated Bedstep, which makes it easier to access the bed while pulling a fifth-wheel trailer.”
As CNET notes, the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD is scheduled to make its official debut in February, most likely at the Chicago Auto Show.
